Society of Swandeliers - Manchester Meet-up
*NOTE CHANGE OF VENUE - NOW AT CORNERHOUSE*
Tuesday 22nd of May 2012 (6pm-8pm)
The event is open to all - whether you are an electronic tinkerer, artistic performer, open source evangelist, biological experimenter or just someone with a mad idea - come along and join in!
Introducing "Grace" the Open Source Swan Pedalo - a 6ft by 10ft water-worthy, human-propelled, sailing vessel and a new model for co-operative art practice!
This meet-up provides an opportunity to chat with people who have worked with the swan so far and we will be conducting an ideas generation workshop for future swan adventures.
Our Open Source Swan Pedalo - Grace - will potentially be taking part in a special event in Manchester during the weekend of the 22nd/23rd June - so there is something to aim for...
During 2011 the Open Source Swan Pedalo was involved in numerous creative adventures across the North of England:
so far she has been:
- the focus of video projections, and a starting point for GPS experiments
- transformed into a pirate radio station
- taken on an epic 127 mile journey along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal for BBC Sports Relief (raising over £50,000 for charity!)
- used as a stage for poetry, music and performance
The Open Source Swan Pedalo is a “see where it goes” project... come along and help decide what happens next!
Who are the Society of Swandeliers?
The "Society of Swandeliers" is the informal network of individuals who look after Grace and work to instigate and deliver projects and actions. Anyone can be a part of the Society of Swandeliers and so far we have groups based in Liverpool and in Leeds - we'd really like to establish a chapter in Manchester!
‘I think the system is quite primitive in a sense, but radical primitive, i find that things that are so primitive could have a lot of usability to get round to new things, new work, new style of art’ - Tetsuo Kogawa
